"Extremely loud and Incredibly Close is a miracle, a daybreak, a man on the moon. It's so impeccably imagined, so courageously executed, so everlastingly moving and fine." - Baltimore Sun
Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close movie picture (2011 film).
Testimonial Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close is a wonderful novel . The main character Oskar is so smart and reading his point of view helps expands your mind. My dear friend Julia recommended this book to me and it has now became my favorite book to read. What really captured my attention while reading was the life of the young boy. It was so relatable because he wasn't the coolest, but he seemed cool because he was so educated on so many topics. Throughout the story you learn many new random facts. This book can took you to a lot of places, from talking about art to fears and to even death. This book couldn't bore you due to an event happening on each page, each page is important to the whole story. In order to get into this book you MUST pick up all the hints thrown at you, because all of the problems in the story may not be directly said. Although, while reading you may get confused due to there being 3 different narrators sharing their stories; the grandma's Thomas Schell's, and Oskar's. So, you need to be able to pick up when the mood and tone of the story changes. This is why I would recommend this book to readers from the ages of 14 and up. Jonathan Sofran style is unique. Never read anything like it. The word choice and random words in french shows just how different Jonathan Sofran is. If your'e looking for a book that makes you cry, laugh, and pout this is the book for you.

Relates to... I personally believe that this book relates to Mean Girls in some parts. One way they relate is during some of the scenes Oskar has these visions of saying and doing wild things (like attacking people and cursing at them) like Lindsay Lohan does in Mean Girls, but just like the movie they turn out to be allusions. Although, I haven't read another book that this relates to this story. It's uniqueness is to fine to connect to another.

Excerpt " Even after a year, I still had an extremely difficult time doing certain things, like taking showers, for some reason, and getting into elevators, obviously. There was a lot of stuff that made me panicky, like suspension bridges, germs, airplanes, fireworks, Arab people in […] public places, scaffolding, sewers, […] smoke, knots, tall buildings, turbans.
